Why “Change in the Air"?
What started as a beer collaboration between New England Brewing and Dockside Brewery as a fundraiser for the CT brewers Guild African American Scholarship, has evolved into a festival with the same goals. Creating a more inclusive beer industry while uplifting's and highlighting Black and Brown owned food vendors, music and art.
This inclusive event will provide the Black and Brown community the opportunity to discuss social issues, learn more about careers in the Connecticut and surrounding region craft beer industry, and the educational programs available through Sacred Heart University.

About the SHU Brewing Science Program and Scholarship
In 2020, New England Brewing Co. (NEBCO), created an employee-run Equality Committee in response to the social justice movement and the protests sweeping the country. The committee has decided to focus on diversifying the beer industry, while bringing awareness to racial injustice and helping to elevate Black and Brown communities in need.
NEBCO teamed up with Sacred Heart University to create two African American Brewers Scholarships for its brewery science certificate. One scholarship will be funded yearly by NEBCO, and the other one will be funded by Athletic Brewing Company. We have also established an endowed scholarship that will continue in perpetuity, once we raise enough money, under the CT Brewers Guild. To date, we have raised over $45,000 for our endowment!
Coverage of our efforts have appeared in CT Magazine and the Beverage Journal, on NBC Connecticut in Color, and on multiple podcasts via interviews with Jamal Robinson, chairman of the NEBCO Equality Committee and director of sales and marketing at NEBCO. With the help of Great Falls Brewing, Athletic Brewing, Two Roads Brewing Co., Rhythm Brewing, and the CT Brewers Guild, we were able to award four scholarships this year!
“SHU’s brewing science certificate program launched in May 2020. It is the only brewing science program in Connecticut and the closest program of its kind to New York City. The 11-month, 22-credit brewing science certificate program uses a hybrid online and on-site course selection to broadly cover relevant brewing topics rooted in brewing science, including scientific brewing theory.”
